This window has lots of options, but it is really simple to use! Move your mouse over the options and buttons and a tooltip will appear giving an explanation of what it does. The buttons, with the help of the tooltips are self explanatory. Left click the text by a check box and a detailed explanation is displayed at the bottom of the window.
Set the line buffer to the maximum number of lines you want to be held in your chat buffer. Text which is held in the chat buffer is available for you to scroll up to read, or to scan (press control + f) zero is the default setting, it does not mean zero lines, but rather 15 feet of text will be kept in the buffer. Smaller fonts will allow more lines of text to be saved. minus one will be unlimited lines. Other numbers will be the actual number of lines you want to have available to you to scroll back to see. Please be aware that large numbers may cause the screen to stop scrolling when the buffer gets very full.
On the left side of the screen is a list of all the items you can see in chat. You may choose to see them by putting a checkmark in the box in front of them. The boxes that are filled in with a greenish color are mandatory. Displaying all the other items is optional. To change the way an item looks on your screen, right click it. Use the menu that appears to set each attribute to your preference.
The large window on the right is a preview of how your settings will affect the appearance of your chat screen.
The color theme options give you three different preset looks for your chat window each of which can be customized.
Notice that on the lower right there is a detailed explanation of what that the item does.
The colors of the third graphic are different than the first two due to the graphics were created on different computers using different Windows color schemes.
- There are two places to set 'your' text. The "Your Text" option will set the attributes for your text as others will see it. You will see it the same way UNLESS you have the "Show Self Special" option enabled. Show Self Special allows you to see your text differently than others see it. This is especially useful if you want your text to stand out on your screen. Unchecking the box will allow you to see your text as others will see it.
- If you want to see posted URLs but they are not showing on your screen, check to make sure you have enabled them. There should be a check in the box for the option "HTTP and WWW"
- To change the layout of YahELite, click the menu item Format then click Layout.
- Alternative ways to enable items. Highlight an option and toggle the button at the top of the left window to put in a check mark or take one out for the item that is highlited. The attributes of a highlited item can be set by clicking the buttons in the second row.
- If you do not want to see the notifications of users entering and leaving the rooms, but you want to be notified that your buddies are entering or leaving the room, do not put a check mark in the "User Enters Room"/"User Leaves" room options, but click Options in the menu, then click Personal and put a check in the box to always show friends enter/leave.
- Alignment works best when the User names are displayed using a non bold monospaced font.
