Yah^E^Lⁱ^t^e Avatars

Avatars are small images that are displayed to the left of the user name on the chat screen. Yah^E^Lⁱ^t^e users and chatters using compatible clients are able to see avatars, but chatters using Yahoo's software cannot see Yah^E^Lⁱ^t^e^'s avatars.

Viewing Avatars

To view avatars in chat, simply click the menu item View then click Avatar (you will now see a check in front of Avatar) If you don't want to see ANY avatars, repeat the process (the check mark will no longer be displayed in front of the View > Avatar Option)

If you want to see most avatars, but don't want to see a particular one, in the userlist, right click the name of the chatter who is displaying the avatar you don't want to see. Then left click the Avatar Option in the list and choose the Hide Option. As always, using Yah^E^Lⁱ^t^e is all about choice, YOU decide what you want to see!

As this window opens, the list box will contain all the avatars you have on your computer in an avatar folder Yah^E^Lⁱ^t^e has created for you. If you have never used Yah^E^Lⁱ^t^e in chat with the "View Avatar" option enabled, the list box of "avatars I have used" will only contain the avatar named yhlt@ya which is YahELite's default avatar.

Clicking the button labeled "Avatars from chat" will display all the avatars you have viewed in chat, however the list will be empty the first time.

To get avatars, click "More Options" and download avatars directly from the host avatar library.

You can also search for avatars by entering a name or partial name in the text box labled Find Avatar In Library" and click the small button to the right of the box that has an open book on it. That will search the avatar libraries for matching names and allow you to select the one you want to use.

If you have avatars loaded, simply scroll through the list and click "OK" if you find one you like. If you have previously used an avatar in chat and have decided not to change your avatar, click "Cancel"

Under the displayed avatar, the size of the avatar is shown and two buttons:

Reload avatars: If an Avatar has been updated in the library, but the name has not changed, this will load the new image file. It will also load an image which is outside of Yah^E^Lⁱ^t^e^'s normal acceptible height/width dimensions. It will not load an image that is larger than 16k.
Never show this avatar: As always Yah^E^Lⁱ^t^e allows you to customize your chat screen. Use this button if you see an avatar you find offensive. The image will stay on your disk, but will be marked as hidden. Click it again to return it to viewable status.

More Options

Clicking the "More Options" button will expand the avatar window.

The Avatar Libraries

Initially avatars from all five avatar libraries are displayed. If you do not want to see avatars contained in a particular library, click the green bar. The color will change, click it again and the color will return to green signifying it can be seen.
Get the library's catalog of avatars
To browse the avatars contained in a library, click the library's button (above the green button), then click
- The entire catalog: Displays a list of all the avatars the library selected above offers.
- New arrivals only: Displays a list containing only the avatars that you do not have.
Select an Avatar
- Scroll To see the avatars
- Click "OK" When you find the avatar you want

To add your own avatar: Click the button labeled "Add Your Avatar to the YahELite Avatar Library" This will open the page on CustomCodes.Com which will allow you to load your own avatar. Avatars are loaded at the discretion of the site's owners and will be rejected if the content is unusable, or if there are similiar ones already posted. General guidelines are posted on the upload page, "Click Here." to go to view the upload page. Clicking the button labled Visit The YahElite Avatar Library will first open a dialog box which will allow you to choose the browser you want to use, and then will open the webpage containing the YahELite avatar library.

When a chatter displays a new avatar, Yah^E^Lⁱ^t^e will display an hourglass avatar, which is the default avatar showing the graphic is being fetched from the library. If it is found, it will be displayed the next time the chatter posts it. However if is not found, Yah^E^Lⁱ^t^e will display a question mark avatar. If the avatar is found, but it is not viewable, the same question mark avatar will be displayed.

You can easily change the default graphics. Click the Waiting Default graphic to change the image you see when Yah^E^Lⁱ^t^e tells you it is fetching the graphic from the remote site.
Click the Not Available Default graphic to change the graphic you see when an avatar is not available.

Load new Avatars as required during chat A check mark in this checkbox will allow Yah^E^Lⁱ^t^e to fetch avatars you have never displayed before and add them to your avatar folder. If you choose not to load the avatars, the question mark avatar will be shown when chatters display avatars you do not have.

Load new avatars safely in the background A check mark in this checkbox will allow Yah^E^Lⁱ^t^e to fetch the avatar while continuing to post chat text, which eliminates lag due to waiting for the file to be uploaded. If you use a dial up connection to access the internet, it is recommend that you keep this option checkmarked.

Hints

If you do not want to post an avatar:
- Click the green button that says "Yes, I want to show my avatar in chat." It will change color. To display your avatar, simply click the button again. It will turn green signifying that your avatar will be shown.
Remember that if you mouse over a button, a tooltip will show.
