YahELite CAPTCHA - Bots Be Gone!
--- Oh wait, bots cannot read, which is why it works. ---
In an attempt to rid chat of bots, Yahoo requires CAPTCHA verification when you log into chat and when you change rooms. If you are inactive in chat, you will be required to use the CAPTCHA verification periodically as well.
Captcha verification is a test to see if you are a human or a bot. The Captcha test graphic contains a mix of distorted letters and numbers. Humans can read the text, type it in and send it back to Yahoo. If it matches Yahoo knows you are not a bot and will let you into chat. Bots cannot read, so they cannot send in the correct answer.
While it is somewhat of an inconvenience, this has significantly cut down on the number of bots roaming the chat hallways. YahELite's version 318 and above will open a small window containing the CAPTCHA graphic. Upon entering the correct sequence of letters and or numbers, the window will close.
Let's walk through it
As you log in and connect to chat, Yahoo will put you into a waiting room with Yahoo as the only name showing in the user list. YahELite will open a small window containing the CAPTCHA graphic.
NOTE: YahELite's tab-bar allows you to hide
or show the corresponding window elements like the menu and toolbar. This screenshot was created with all
the elements hidden so it might look different than it does on your computer.
Elements can be hidden or made visible by clicking the tabs in the tab-bar. When a window within
YahELite is opened, a tab for the window is added.
The CAPTCHA window corresponds to the HUMANS ONLY tab on the tab-bar.
Type in the text you see displayed in the CAPTCHA window. Press enter or click the OK button to send it to Yahoo.
If Yahoo accepts your answer Yahoo will post a message into the room and put you into the room. The CAPTCHA window will close.
If your answer is wrong, the CAPTCHA box will display another combination of letters and numbers. YahELite will put a prompt in the chat window to letting you know you need to try again.
If you do not respond to the verification request, after five minutes, you will be disconnected from chat.
If you click the YahELite logo at the bottom of the CAPTCHA window
you can access the "CAPTCHA HOMEPAGE" to learn more
about the CAPTCHA project. Right clicking the logo brings up this tooltip.
HINT: If you want the tooltips to be visible longer, click
YahELite's Menu item Window then click Snappy Help
If there is a checkmark in front of it, tooltips will disappear when the mouse moves off the item.
If there is no checkmark, the tooltip will be displayed in a small window.
