YahELite manages your local buddies and your Yahoo buddies.
There are three ways to view your buddy list.
- Click the tab labled Buds in the tab bar.
- Hold the ALT key down and press b
- Click the menu item ToolKit and choose Buddies/Away
In the above example:
- The buddy list will show the status of all the buddies on your Yahoo friend's list and all the buddies contained in the YahELite's friends list. Names will be displayed for each list they are in so names may appear more than once in the list.
On-line status is represented by the smiley faces In this example- Deepthawt's status is "IDLE" and is displaying a custom status message".
- florkette's status is "AWAY" with a status of Stepped Out
- k4tch00's status is "AVAILABLE"
- redneckrepairs's status is "AVAILABLE" and is displaying a custom message
- yaheliette status is "AVAILABLE" and is displaying the roomname.
- Pressing the Online Only button will change the list to display only your buddies who are currently on-line and have chosen to share that they are on-line.
- Your away state is shown in the box at the top. To change your away state, click the down arrow or left click the box. (Right clicking a screen element brings up the tooltip for it.)
- Pressing in the RoomName in AwayMsg button will display your roomName in your name's status message in the format /join roomName. Your friends using YahELite will be able to click the message and go to the room you are in.
- The name you are logged in with is displayed in the window caption. The numbers represent the number of friends you have on-line/total number of friends
- Pressing the Refresh button will refresh the list.
- Show Chat will display the chat window.
- Add Buddy opens a window
- To keep the Buds List "On Top" of all your windows" click the "Keep On Top" button.
- Clicking a Gold Star button will, as always, open a tutorial page explaining the options.
Right clicking a buddy's name will display a menu of available options. The menu items displayed vary depending on if you are using YahELite in the Basic or Expert Display Level. .

Click the down arrow at the top of the window to see the list of Away State Choices. Choose the away state you want your friends to see.
Clicking the "New Custom Message" option in the drop down list brings up the "Away" dialog box.
If you have used a custom message previously, it will be displayed in the top box. You can click the down arrow to display previously used messages. Selecting one of them will load it into the bottom box, to be used as the current away message.
If you want a new message, type it into the bottom box, Choose which state you want to be in: Online, Busy, or Idle and YahELite will display the icon to the left of your name in the user's list in chat and also in your friend's buddy list if they are using YahELite.
- YahELite maintains ONE buddy list which will hold all the buddy names for all the nicnames you have used while using YahELite.
